OEM vs aftermarket battery — does it matter? Yes. Genuine OEM (or Service Genuine) batteries are the only ones guaranteed to show full Battery Health %, support paired-battery service on iPhone XR and newer, and trigger no "Important Battery Message" warning. Aftermarket batteries (typically $50–$80 less) work fine but may show "Unknown Part" in Settings → Battery Health and drop the % indicator entirely.

What is "battery pairing" and do I need it? Apple introduced battery pairing on iPhone XR (2018). The phone authenticates the battery's serial number against Apple's servers.
