Back Glass & Housings

Buying guide How to pick the right back glass & housing

OEM vs aftermarket: Genuine OEM parts (Apple-/Samsung-branded) cost more but guarantee full feature parity. Aftermarket parts work for most use cases at ~30–50% of OEM cost — best when your device is older and you're keeping it for <2 more years. Check the listing title for grade markers: "(OEM)", "(Refurbished)", or "Aftermarket" / "Hard OLED" / "Soft OLED".

Tools you'll need: Most repairs need at minimum: a Y000 tri-point screwdriver (iPhones 5–8), pentalobe screwdriver (most modern iPhones), suction cup or opening pick, plastic spudger, ESD-safe tweezers. We sell an install kit ($14.99) with all of the above + a magnetic project mat that prevents losing the tiny screws.

Don't have the right tools or experience? Drop off at our New Haven shop or mail in — $39.99 standard install fee applies to most parts (we test the device after installation). Find My Device must be turned off before mail-in repair on iPhones, iPads, and Macs.

On many phones the back glass is bonded with adhesive and heat, and on models with the camera housing molded in you may need the full rear housing rather than glass alone — check the listing. iPhone back-glass removal in particular is labor-intensive (laser or heat), so it's often best done by a technician. Not sure which part fits, or want it installed? Our New Haven, CT shop can identify the exact part and handle the repair — book a repair and we'll take care of it.

Frequently asked questions

Is back glass just cosmetic?
No — a cracked back can let in dust and moisture, snag on a swelling battery, and hurt resale value. Replacing it restores a sealed, protected device.
Do I need back glass only or the whole housing?
Depends on the model. Some take a glass-only panel; others have the camera bezel molded into the housing and need the full rear housing. The listing specifies which you're buying.
Can I replace iPhone back glass myself?
It's one of the harder DIY repairs — the glass is laminated to the frame and usually needs heat or a laser to remove cleanly. Many people book a repair for this one.
Warranty?
Yes — 90-day warranty, shipped same-day from our Manassas, VA warehouse.
